We plan to adapt the interior of our Parish Church so that it will support the various styles of worship that currently take place, provide full accessibility for all, be available as a venue for community events and have facilities appropriate to the 21st Century.
This page provides an overview of those activities and links to documents with details of proposals and other information.
In November 2006 the PCC unanimously adopted a Statement of Significance and Needs in preparation for proposals for the re-ordering of St Mary's. The documents below may be downloaded for inspection

PCC Discussion and Decisions.
On the 26th September 2008 it was decided that in October and November 2008 the PCC would be making two significant decisions about the preferred design for the re-ordering of St Mary's. The first decision was about the way in which we separate the front worship area in the nave from the rear fellowship area. The second decision was whether or not to have a mezzanine floor for additional facilities. In the new year, the PCC will be asked to make many other decisions as the details
of the preferred design are worked through. For all of these, we will be very grateful for your comments.
From 19th to 28th October the architects' options for the partition of the nave and from 16th to 25th November the architects' options regarding the mezzanine floor were on public display in the church |

The Parochial Church Council of Thornbury, meeting on Tuesday October 28th, discussed four options proposed by the architects for marking the transition between the fellowship and worship areas in the proposed re-ordering of the interior of St Mary's Church. The PCC benefited from feedback received through the consultation process and from advice from the architects who were present.
The merits of a glass screen were considered. However the preferred option was to have no fixed structure but to rely upon flexible furnishings and variation in flooring, color and lighting for demarcation between the fellowship and worship areas. The architects are now working on the details.
The PCC also adopted an outline funding plan |

The PCC made the second of its major decisions regarding the preferred design for the re-ordering of the Parish Church. The chosen option introduces a gracefully shaped mezzanine floor, allowing stair and lift access to the Parvis room and a new Tower Room, as well as additional seating space and meeting areas. For large services, seating for over forty additional people will bring the maximum capacity up to about four hundred and seventy. On the ground floor there will be
enhanced kitchen facilities, with two toilets in the Tower, one fully accessible. The overall cost of this part of the work will be in the region of £80,000 out of an estimated total cost of £850,000.
Open meetings
Open meetings took place on Saturday 13th December at St Mary's to report to the wider public on the progress made during the year on the Fellowship and Worship areas, Mezzanine Options and outline funding plan.
